The problem

Why a King does not fit a European bed

You bought the bed in Milan, in São Paulo or from a designer showroom here, and now a King does not fit it. European and Italian frames are built in centimeters.

An American King is 76 x 80 inches, or 193 x 203 cm. A European King is 160 x 200 cm, or 63 x 78.7 inches. That is 33 cm narrower and 3 cm shorter.

Put a King on a 160 x 200 frame and it overhangs on both sides; put a Queen on it and you leave a gap down each edge. Neither works, and neither is fixable with a topper.

We build the mattress to the frame instead of asking you to replace the frame.

Size names vary from one bed maker to another. Measure the inside of your frame and compare it with the dimensions below — the centimeters are what matter, not the name.

Designer and imported frames

If your bed came from an Italian or Brazilian designer house, a European manufacturer, or an importer here in Miami, it was almost certainly built in centimeters. Send us the brand and model and we will confirm the dimensions, or we measure at the residence.

Italian and European frames

Designer beds built for 160 x 200 or 180 x 200, plus the other metric sizes from 80 to 200 cm wide.

Brazilian and imported beds

Frames brought in from abroad or bought through a local importer, in dimensions that do not appear on an American size chart.

Antique and three-quarter

Three-quarter beds at 48 x 75 or 48 x 72 inches, antique singles and other heirloom frames.

Platform beds built for the room

Beds designed by an architect or built in place, where the mattress has to match a recess rather than a standard.

European frames take European sheet sizes. We carry fine linens in metric dimensions and source the sizes we do not stock.

European size questions

What is the American equivalent of a 160 x 200 mattress?

There is no exact equivalent. 160 x 200 cm is 63 x 78.7 inches, which falls between an American Queen (60 x 80 in) and a King (76 x 80 in), and is shorter than both. The only correct answer is a mattress built to 160 x 200.

Can I just use a King on a European frame?

No. A King is 33 cm wider and 3 cm shorter than a European King, so it overhangs the sides and still leaves the foot short.

Do you carry European size sheets?

Yes. We carry fine linens in metric sizes, and we can source the sizes we do not stock.

How long does it take?

Production takes 7 to 15 days from the confirmed order, with delivery in South Florida. There is no international shipping and no customs wait.

My bed is from a designer brand. Do you know the size?

Send us the brand and model and we will confirm the dimensions, or we measure at the residence.

Can a custom-size mattress be returned?

No. It is made for one bed, so it is final sale.
